New indigenous affairs co-ordinator
Doreen Richard (鈥96) joined the campus community this past summer as the University鈥檚 first indigenous affairs co-ordinator. Richard鈥檚 position is meant to help all students on campus, assisting with campus events, residence requirements, and academic research in the area of First Nations, as well as helping admissions recruit First Nations students.
鈥淥ne of my goals is to build relationships with key players to assist in the indigenization of our campus 鈥 academically, socially, and culturally,鈥 says Richard. 鈥淚 am working with faculty and staff to help create an environment where First Nations students see themselves positively in the curriculum and working closely with the Indigenous Support Group.鈥
Originally from Nova Scotia, Richard is Mi鈥檏maq and taught in the public school system throughout the Maritimes.
